Closure of Scottish Government’s ‘independence unit’

The Scottish Government’s constitutional futures division has been disbanded, according to reports today.

The Scottish Daily Express has published a freedom of information request which reportedly states the unit was “disbanded on 17 January 2025 and its activity has been merged into the wider constitution directorate”.

Alastair Cameron, chair of pro-UK campaign group Scotland in Union, said:

“Having wasted millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money on the SNP’s separation drive, this move is long overdue.

“But despite the challenges facing our public services, the nationalists continue to prioritise division instead of the priorities of the people of Scotland.

“It’s time for change, with a government that focuses on what really matters.”

Our comments on this have also been picked in The Times, and also in the Express.
