Over 750,000 Scots have had their jobs safeguarded by the UK Treasury’s economic bailout, according to new official figures.
The data shows that 628,000 jobs have been furloughed, while 146,000 self-employed jobs have also been saved through a £425million support package.
The figures represent about a third of the country’s total workforce.
Pamela Nash, chief executive of Scotland in Union, said:
“These measures to save jobs in Scotland are a direct result of being part of the UK.
“The broad shoulders of the UK are helping every worker and business during these difficult times.
“It’s important that governments remain fully focused on recovering from the coronavirus crisis, bringing people together and working in the interests of everyone in Scotland.”
