Scotland in Union COVID-19 care calls.

As many of our supporters will know, we decided early in March to suspend campaigning during the COVID-19 outbreak. We are sure you will agree this was the correct decision given the circumstances.

Since campaigning was halted, we have directed our supporters and volunteers to organisations which are helping the vulnerable in our communities, most notably Viral Kindness Scotland, Ready Scotland, and the British Red Cross.

We also started our own care calls, which involved calling up supporters to see how they were coping during the lockdown. If anyone needed assistance, we were able to alert or refer them to the appropriate local or national bodies. We were also able to help with delivering groceries, or picking up prescriptions, or even just a simple chat on the phone – it all makes a difference.

During our care calls we contacted over 500 supporters all over Scotland to ask them how they were coping during lockdown.

One of our volunteers, Gail, said: “Some people I contacted were just keen to talk, so I did feel I’d been a listening ear and helped them get some issues off their chest - I was even thanked on Twitter too.”

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us reach out to our supporters. We could not do what we do without you.
